Welcome to Summer 2025
The Summer of Misunderstood Monsters
Dear Mythik Camps Families,
Here at Mythik Camps, we dedicate every summer to our demigods and their growth into young heroes. From sword fighting and arms forging to storytelling and nature exploration, hero training has many layers, and to the mortals, it may seem… well, confusing. Why must a demigod go on a quest? What is a snackrifice? You need HOW MUCH cardboard?
As we head into our 16th season of adventure, we would be remiss not to acknowledge the message that so many of our families have shared with us over the years: being a kid is tough, and every demigod needs a place where they can explore their interests, run off their energy (thanks, Hermes!), and feel seen and understood. It’s our mission to be that place.
Summer 2025 is the year of Misunderstood Monsters, and as we explore Mothman’s premonitory presence, Polyphemus’s limited insight, and the Sphinx’s perplexing riddles (among many other monstrous things!), your kiddo will also be uncovering their bravery, their wits, and their ability to be a great team member and friend. We are so glad to have you joining us – it’s going to be scary fun!
Warm regards,
Dr. Crystal Bobb-Semple, aka Persephone Founder and CEO, Mythik Camps

Galen Wesson

Just as Galen settled into her historical studies, Dionysus, the god of theater, chaos, and revelry, had other plans. Recognizing her love for fun and creativity, he swept her away from the written word and led her into the unpredictable world of visual arts and crafts, where she could embrace the playful, chaotic side of creation.
During her travels through myth, Galen crossed paths with Medusa—the misunderstood Gorgon, cursed yet powerful in her own right. Medusa and Galen bonded over their shared love of creativity and transformation. While the world saw Medusa as a monster, Galen recognized her as a true artist, capable of turning the ordinary into something extraordinary. Through their friendship, they learned from each other’s unique talents—Medusa’s ability to create life through her art and Galen’s gift for weaving stories and history into every creation. They became close allies and homegirls, often collaborating on whimsical and transformative projects at Camp Mythikos.
Now, as Camp Director, Galen blends the divine influences of Hermes' storytelling, Mnemosyne's historical wisdom, Dionysus' creative chaos, and Medusa’s transformative art to guide campers on their own journeys of self-discovery. Whether leading quests, creating art, or telling stories, Galen ensures Camp Mythikos is a place where campers can explore creativity, history, and the beautiful chaos of myth.

Josh has a traditional trade background in addition to a mythic one, and has served multiple apprenticeships and journeymanships in leatherworking, swordsmithing, and prop design. His work can be seen at theme parks, renaissance festivals, and galleries across the country. He's a certified personal trainer with the National Association for Strength and Conditioning, and an Actor Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors. He's a lifelong martial artist, and a published scholar on the history and modern interpretations of martial arts.
He currently works as a stage combat instructor and theatrical fight director in and around New York and New Jersey, as well as a martial and theatrical consultant in both entertainment and academia.
While at Camp, Josh loves combining the stories and lore of mythology with the arts and practices of the cultures they originate from. Finding opportunities for young demigods to learn about things that interest them while pursuing their Quests is his favorite part of being part of the heroic experience.
